Macroeconomics and Monetary Policy Program
John B. Taylor,
Director (currently on leave)
This program researches the aggregate level of economic activity and employment and the control of the national money supply. New quantitative tools for measuring and forecasting changes in economic performance, developed under the direction of this program, have helped economists and policy makers. This program sponsors an annual conference with the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank.
The first conference, held in 1992,
focused on lessons from the then recent 1990-91 recession.
The 8th
conference, held in March 2000, focused on the role
of monetary policy in the New Economy.
The research has given way to numerous papers and books,
including the recently published Handbook of Macroeconomics
(North-Holland) and
Monetary Policy Rules (University of Chicago
Press) which focus on the latest ideas in macro-economic
and monetary policy research. Additional research, writings,
and official speeches on monetary policy rules can be
found at monetary
policy rules home page.
